It’s about His kingdom not mine

It’s about expanding His kingdom not mine.

The last two weeks have been very busy for me. God is doing some amazing things in my life. Recently I had some old friendships renewed, and I have been so encouraged through that. I have tried to reach one of them many times but no luck and then through the other friend all three of us got reconnected after 12 years. One of them stopped by the office yesterday and visited with Logan and myself. It was a great day reminiscing, and I am glad Logan got to meet him. I was so blessed listening to how God had used him these past 13 years in Ohio.  When I take vacation in Florida I will visit the other friend who now lives in New Smyrna. God is doing some great work in his life by bringing him back to a close relationship with Jesus. This friend is the most gifted guy I know to connect with and reach un-churched people. Pray for God to do a complete work of healing and restoration for this brother. Last night he emailed me psalm 51 and asked me to pray it for him and with him. Both of these guys name are Jim and I am so blessed to call them my friends.

God doesn’t just bring people into your life without a reason. So, I now ask myself, what is God requiring of me? No one lives on an island, and we cannot live for ourselves and walk with Jesus. Both of these friends are at transition points in their life. Both have obstacles to overcome to move in a new direction, such as family, jobs and ministries, and a completely new focus. Several ways I can help: 1. Pray for them. 2. Help them clarify their vision. 3. Ask God about helping them financially. 3 Consider giving of my time and other resources to help serve them.

As a pastor and church planter we have to guard against only becoming involved in those things that directly benefit us personally, our churches and ministries. As leaders if we are not careful we only focus on and put our energy toward expanding our own kingdoms. Pride and selfishness can run deep in church leaders if we are not careful. I am all for growing and reaching people in the church God lets me lead, but not exclusively. God has called me to expand His kingdom not just mine.

Many churches never get involved in church planting because they are so self centered and busy trying to grow their own church. Leaders make statements like we cannot afford to right now. If churches wait until they can afford to start churches they will never do it. It’s like a young married couple saying ‘we are going to wait until we can afford to have children’. Couples will never have children and churches will never start new churches if they wait until they can afford them. I am not talking about reckless decisions, and poor financial planning. However, I am talking about walking in faith. The greatest blessing a young couple or church can experience is having children. Let’s have the clear perspective that it’s about HIs kingdom, not ours.

  1. Jim says:

    Love ya brother.

Acts 4:13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

That was us bro, back in college………IGNORANCE ON FIRE!!!!! And we’re still this way>>>>>>>>>>>But they took note that these men had been with Jesus!!!!
