Life of Revival

Posted: April 10, 2011 in Uncategorized

I have the privilege to preach at the revival services of Southside Baptist Church in Bowling Green, this week. Before starting a modern culturally relevant church I preached 8 or 10 revivals a year and have always enjoyed those services. Revival meetings are almost a thing of the past, not many modern churches have this type of meetings. I think it is good to draw aside and allow God to speak to His local church, challenging her to walk closer to Him. Just holding services does not make a revival. The old-timers called these a protractive meeting because they knew unless God moved and people experienced repentance and renewal, it would not be a revival, just a series of services. I am praying for revival to occur in this local body of believers that is contagious and spreads to others. (Psalm 85:6) “…revive us again that your people will rejoice in you again.”

Revival is returning to the place of normalcy for the people of God. Leonard Ravenhill said “we have become so subnormal that being normal seems abnormal. Get on fire and stay on fire, being a radical for Jesus. When you live in a constant state of revival it is like drinking from a fire hydrant. I believe it is time for the church to be and live like God intended. At riverwoods let’s just live in that place of normalcy, that place of joy, excitement and revival. Rather than experiencing a week of revival I am praying for and seeking a life of revival.
